This past Saturday I phone-banked and attended a rally for Creigh Deeds with fellow blog contributor, Nick. I was able to snap a few pictures with my cell phone for you guys! The rally was held in Annandale, VA. Deeds was joined by Governor Tim Kaine, Lieutenant Governor nominee Jody Wagner, supporters and volunteers for the canvass kickoff event in Fairfax. Volunteers knocked on doors and phone-banked all day in their communities to speak with voters about Deeds’ plan to jump-start Virginia’s economy. Among the supporters at the rally was a large number of student from the University of Michigan. The energy among the crowd was contagious, even with the light drizzle!
Phone-banking was really a rewarding opportunity. We were given the opportunity to speak with a demographic that had at sometime in their life voted Democratic, but had not voted for the past few elections. Our task was to convince these voters to make their way to the polls come Election Day. We went to headquarters in McLean, VA where we were provided coffee and cake as an additional incentive to maintain high and positive energy.
If you are interested in getting involved, phone-banking for Deeds is 9:00am - 8:00pm, seven days a week. To join the grassroots network and for canvassing opportunities, go to Deeds' website and click on the Volunteer link. Who knows, you could end up like Nick in this photo!
